Hi Dustin, I appreciate your intellectual humility and modest writing. As a fellow Enneagram 5, I also value questioning my assumptions. When I worked at the Gates Foundation and Hewlett Foundation, I was the one to often ask, "Why are we so certain about our assumptions? Why aren't we scrutinizing them more?" Those questions can be uncomfortable for other Enneagram types, like 1, 2, 3, 6 & 8, who often work in philanthropy. (Yet, I recognize our dependence on types 1 & 8 for their determined, relentless advocacy. I'm not wired to fight tooth and nail for my preferences, since I'm inclined to question them.)

Still, I'd like to see more humility from foundations and billionaires. What are your thoughts on how to foster more humility at a grantmaking foundation, aside from hiring more Enneagram 5's?

Mostly ill-formed reflections to figure out what I think myself. Occasionally a fully formed essay with strong opinions, loosely held.
